Literature
From the very beginning of Telugu literature, Sanskrit has occupied a dominant place, while the share of native Telugu has often been smaller. However, this is no reason for discouragement.
Poets like Ponaganti Telaganarya, Palkuriki Somanatha, and Kuchimanchi Timmakavi composed their works almost entirely in Telugu. Among Telugu Satakams, works such as the Vemana Satakam and the Sumati Satakam gave Telugu a prominent and respected place. Poets such as Tikkana and Pothana made excellent use of Telugu in their works.
The Telugu of the Rayalaseema region can be seen beautifully reflected in the devotional compositions of Annamacharya. Scholars such as Adibhatla Narayana Dasu and Marepalli Ramachandra Sastry helped bring the rich spiritual heritage preserved in Sanskrit into Telugu.
Beyond these literary works, our vast body of folk songs, stories, and oral traditions is also steeped in pure Telugu. All of this, too, is part of our telugu literary heritage.
